About Our Blog
Hi, I’m Jodi and I work for Kansas Pork, a grassroots organization of Kansas pork farmers. The checkoff money provided by these farmers has allowed us to create this restaurant guide for you. We’ve teamed up with Chris and Mike, two expert food-tasters and KCBS-certified BBQ judges with good appetites! They’re out searching for yummy pork across the state, and sending me their reviews so I can pass them on to you. My stomach growls every time I hear from them!
While they’re on the road eating fabulous food, I’ll be around here hosting some great giveaways, guest posts, and more! Feel free to take a look around and see what great restaurants you can find in your neck of the woods. Our handy map makes it easy. And the next time you go out to eat, be it a quick bite or a date night, remember to put pork on your fork!
*Kansas Pork Checkoff funds pay for each meal that Chris and Mike eat on the road. They can’t quit their day jobs anytime soon, but they love pork and are more than happy to provide their expertise to help us (and you) out.

Hello, nice to meet you! As a lover of pork I enjoy your news letters and the restaurant you talk about. I get hungry everytime I read your post, nothing better than some smoked pork. I can smell it just talking about it. There is a BBQ restaurant in Pleasanton Kansas,Dean’s Pub & Grub that has some fantastic pulled pork. Pulled pork is my favorite, next to burnt ends and good baby back ribs, which I love to. Our local grocery store, Julies in LaCygne, Ks. smoke meat on week ends and their ribs are hard to beat, along with pork steak and loin they smoke. Their meat taste as good as any restaurant you could eat at, I would highly recomend their pork to any one!!
By now I guess you can tell I really enjoy my smoked pork, I fix it at home when ever the weather is good, for Christmas I bought a boneless pork loin and had it smoked at a convenience store in Amsterdam , Mo where they make all kinds of sausages, it was delicious.
Last week end I was wanting some smoked pork and the weather wasn’t good so I took a boneless pork loin and put it in the crock pot with some liquid smoke, cooked it about 7 hours, took it out and pulled it with 2 forks and put it back in the crock pot, added some more liquid smoke and BBQ sauce for another hour and it came out so tender and good. it would about melt in your mouth!!

Hello fellow pork lovers of Kansas,
There is no other place for us in KC like Oklahoma Joes, the
pulled pork is to die for.
I am sure there are MANY wonderful places for great pork but
for us in Olaahoma Joes in Olathe!
Johnny’s on Old 56 Highway in Olathe, their Pork ribs are to die for. If your looking for a filling meal and a stuffed tummy, then head on over to Johnny’s.
I don’t know if you’ve seen it or not, but we have a review of Johnny’s on the blog! Check it out and see if you agree.
Would have to agree with your review that Sugarfoot & Peaches in Fort Scott serves up the best pork chop. Well worth the stop if ever in the area!
Greg, to enter the giveaway, please repost your comment on the “Time For A Giveaway” page. Thanks!

having just eaten my way across KC last weekend, trying every BBQ place we could fit in, i would love it if you could find out the recipe for Johnny’s potato salad. My boyfriend said it is, hands down, the best potato salad he’s ever had. Living in St. Louis, I can’t make a quick run by Johnny’s to get him some just for being amazing….maybe you could help me make it at home?
Hi Meredith! I’m glad you enjoy BBQ, especially in Kansas! I’m sorry, we don’t have access to recipes from the restaurants we review. You could try contacting Johnny’s to see if they would share with you. If not, they may at least be able to tell you what basic style of potato salad it is, whether it’s a mustard-based, etc. Then you could try to look up some similar recipes and try them out to see if you can find something you guys like.
Do you need a pork eater in Wichita?! I love, love, love pork.
We love that you love, love, love pork, Ching!
If you think western ks is short on pork come to Smokn On The Beaver in Atwood, always the last weekend in Sep. 45-50 backyard teams smokn it up. 2013 will be 10th year. Huge celebration. check it out on our website
Sounds delish and looks fun too! Thank you for the invitation!
