Grinders Pizza located at 417 E. 18th St near downtown Kansas City is a local favorite. According to their website, they are “located in the heart of Kansas City’s Crossroads Arts District, serves up great food and drinks seven days a week. Check out our specialty New York-style pizzas, authentic Philly cheese steaks, homemade burgers, deli sandwiches, fresh salads, house-smoked specials and world famous Death Wings. Wash it all down with a selection from the most eclectic beer list in Kansas City.”
They have another restaurant, Grinders West, located immediately next door. Directly behind Grinders is the famous Crossroads, an outdoor music venue featuring some of the music industry’s most famous acts. This place is a one stop shop for cool. What is even cooler? They have a pizza on the menu called the Le Hog.
This pizza is described as;
“A serious flesh feast! Creamy white sauce, 100% real crispy bacon bits, canadian bacon, ham, and meatballs.”
It would be pretty hard to pack more pork onto a pizza than you can get with the Le Hog. They also have burgers, wings salads, and an extensive drink menu. Additionally, Grinders has been featured the Food Network television show Diners, Drive Ins and Dives and the Destination America television show Barbecue Pitmasters, where they proudly represented Kansas City Style barbecue.
The Le Hog is delicious, the beer is cold and the concerts rock. This is a place in Kansas City you can’t miss.

According to a Pitch Magazine article, Spin Neapolitan Pizza has the best pizza in Kansas City. Now I don’t make it a habit of eating in franchise restaurants when there are so many wonderful and small locally owned places all over Kansas….but if it is rated as the best in the entire city….I have to check it out. Besides, a pizza is one of the very best ways to eat some delicious pork and Spin Pizza is headquartered in Kansas City.
According to their website, Spin Neapolitan Pizza has six locations in Kansas City, four in Orange County, California and one coming soon to Omaha, Nebraska. Unlike the bigger national chains, Spin Pizza offers unique menu items like flatbread spreads, soups, gluten free crust, non dairy cheese and a full wine menu.
While at the Lenexa, Kansas location at 9474 Renner Blvd, I ordered the Tre Carni (three meat) pizza with roasted meatballs, sausage and pepperoni. This pork lover’s pizza was delicious. The more I ate it, the better I liked it.
After my wife and I finished the entire pizza, I wished I had some more! Is it the best pizza in Kansas City?….I’ll let you know after I’ve tried all the rest!

Gutch’s Bar and Grill in Hays, Kansas could be one of my new favorite pizza places. It certainly ranks high on my list of Hays restaurants. Their specialty is wood fired pizza.It is very similar in deliciousness to what you will find at another favorite, Dave’s Pizza in Coldwater, Kansas. I would call Gutch’s décor half fine Italian restaurant, with the dark woodwork and Italian inspired photographs, and half sports bar with the metal ceiling, big screen TV’s and centrally located bar. This place is located in Downtown Hays within walking distance of Fort Hays State University. The prices are low enough that a college student could probably afford the occasional meal here. I took my wife and son out for a meal and the ticket was only about $25 bucks! We had a pork lover’s dream; a pepperoni, sausage and Canadian bacon pizza and a side of cheesy bread sticks. I asked my host how long they had been in business, because the place looked relatively new, and he said about 10 years. I can’t believe I had not been there sooner, but I guarantee I will be back again soon!
